Things Hospitality Ministers Need to Know
Know our Ministers of Hospitality Mission Statement.
Know the expectations for Greeters and Ushers when assigned and also the expectations on the weekends when you are not assigned to serve.
Know what is available at the Information Table and where our Welcome Brochures are located.
In case of a medical emergency:
Know the first responders who attend the Mass you serve – parishioners who are police officers, doctors, nurses, EMTs, physical therapists and other medical professionals.
Know the locations of medical resources: a wheelchair, walker, vomit sorb and first aid kit; in addition to an oxygen tank, blood pressure cuff and stethoscope for our medical professionals. There is also a first aid kit are located in the Kitchen off the Social Hall.
If 911 is needed, let one of our first responders call, if available. They will be better prepared to give accurate medial information. If you call, give them the nature of the emergency and follow their instructions. Give them our address 308 North Sherwood Avenue, Clarksville. Ask someone to stand outside and direct the EMS personnel to go.
Consider learning how to perform Hands Only CPR. Visit the American Heart Association website to learn the 2 steps to help someone stay alive.
In case of fire:
Know fire extinguishers are located in: church near door near pre-school; church vestibule near Social Hall door; boiler room, Sacristy room, Ministries room, Social Hall Kitchen and North Social Hall.
Know the fire alarms are located in: all Social Hall exterior doors and all Parish Gym Doors.
Know there are no fire alarms located in the Church.
Call 911 and give them our address 308 North Sherwood Avenue, Clarksville. Ask someone to stand outside and direct the fire personnel to go.
Know that brooms, snow shovels and a supply of salt are located in the boiler room.
Know that additional bathroom supplies can be found in the Ministries room.
Know that Lost and Found items can be taken to or found in the Ministries room.
Expectations Before Your Arrive Plan Ahead
Check the Greeter and Usher schedule regularly to see if you are assigned. The schedules can be found on the Parish Website and posted in the Sacristy room.
Find a substitute if you are scheduled and cannot attend.
Leave for Church in sufficient time to arrive and be ready at least 15 minutes prior to the start of Mass.
Attire – Ordinary attire of dignity, such as what would be work for business or similar circumstance is appropriate. While it is difficult to define a dress code we provide the guidance below:
Men- Slacks, Dockers, Polo shirts or dress shirt. No t-shirts, shorts or torn or faded jeans. No tennis shoes or flip flops.
Women- Dresses, Skirts, Slacks, Blouse, Polo shirt or dress shirt. No t-shirts, shorts or torn or faded jeans. No tennis shoes or flip flops.

Ushers
Pick Up Your Name Tag in Ministries Room.
Check Information Board to see if there are any extra collections, special duties required or special events after Mass.
Make a quick check of bathrooms to and Church to make sure things are neat and in place.
In inclement weather, make sure the walkways are clear of snow and ice and apply salt, if necessary.
As people arrive greet them and if necessary, offer assistance in finding a seat.
Try to identify visitors and warmly welcome them to our Parish. Encourage them to stop by the Information and meet the Pastor. Give them a welcome brochure.
If you see a Parishioner who you have not seen at Mass recently; make a special effort to tell them you are happy to see them.
Select a family to bring up the gifts. Be sure to vary the families selected.
Greeters
Pick Up Your Name Tag in Ministries Room.
Check Information Board for special duties or to see if there are any special events after Mass.

Greet people as they arrive at one of the following doors:
Front door by Sacristy
Front door by the Ministry Room
Side door nearest Pre-School
Social Hall double glass doors
During nice weather, stand outside as you welcome visitors and open door for them, be polite, smile but try not to be overly chatty. If there is a special event after Mass, encourage people to join us.
Try to identify visitors and warmly welcome them to our Parish. Encourage them to stop by the Information and meet the Pastor. Give them a welcome brochure.
If you see a Parishioner who you have not seen at Mass recently; make a special effort to tell them you are happy to see them.
Expectations During Mass
Ushers
Take your place in Church at the beginning of Mass.
Assist those arriving late with seating, if necessary.
Collect offering, assist families who are presenting the gifts and usher during Communion.
Greeters
Take your place in Church at the beginning of Mass.
Identify visitors or Parishioners you can greet after Mass.
Expectations After Mass – Bold Tasks are “Shared Responsibilities”.
Ushers
Handout bulletins, smile and thank people for coming.
Encourage visitors to join us again.
If you see a Parishioner who you have not seen at Mass recently; make a special effort to tell them you are happy to see them.
If we have a special event after Mass, encourage people to attend.
Walk through the Church and pick up bulletins and other items left behind. Return hymnals to their racks, raise the kneelers. Check the restrooms for supplies.
If we have a special event after Mass please attend and continue with our mission to “Welcome all as Christ has welcomed you”. Assist with the event, as necessary.

Expectations When not Assigned The Mission as a Hospitality Ministers never ends. Please help us fulfill our Mission when you are not assigned by doing the following:
Before Mass - When you arrive, see if there is a missing Usher or Greeter. If so, fill in until they arrive.
After Mass – If you identify a visitor make a special effort after Mass to greet them and see if they need any information. Direct them to the Information Table and to meet our Pastor. Encourage them to join us again. If you see a Parishioner who has not attended Mass for awhile, let them know you are happy to see them.
After Mass – If we have a special event after Mass please attend and continue with our mission to “Welcome all as Christ has welcomed you”. Assist with the event, as necessary.
